Winter coleslaw
The winter brings interesting and dull veggies such as cabbage. Just found out you can do a lot with it. I received all kinds of cabbage in my weekly treats from the local food exchange program and was tired of stir frying it and making stew with red cabbage, balsamic vinegar and apples.  I was thinking about  a winter salad which was easy to make using ingredients I had home (red, white...

Remember my post about them bags?  Well, I have a new one in mind for my collection. The Goods Pretzel Tote designed by Ontour from the Netherlands. I’ve been checking them out for a few years now and am happy to hear that they dedicated their new collection to food with items called Knife (sweater), Le Chef (Jumpsuit) and Pastry (cape). Check out their ‘The Bakery’ edition.

Bubble blower spoon by Nienke Sybrandy
Two days ago we visited Object Rotterdam 2012. An initiative curated by Anne van der Zwaag to make art and design accessible for design lovers. A way to start collecting brilliant concepts and designs by presenting awesome limited editions objects. I also got to know designer Nienke Sybrandy, because Nalden wrote about her humorous ‘wachtende spijker’. The bubble blower called...

A Perfect Day with pizza leaves and sausages
Yesterday I went to the launch of the A Perfect Day drawings show to give some heads up for the curator Olga and the Non- Fiction crew who helped the organization out and made this happen. I’m bomb rushed with digital stuff and think this event is awesome. A very cool off line experience which I recommend you to visit. The show will be held at the Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam from the 10th...

Parimeter Tray by Ladies & Gentlemen
I am very fond of the stuff made by L&G Studio! A few months ago they made me super happy with a gift for my love, so he could learn to save some money. And the piggy bank was also something I like to look at haha. So now and then I check their blog out and find a reason for me to need something like this Parimeter Tray. The black one it is!

My kid would have been a hot dog
Yep, if I had a kid. My friends at 290 Square Meters  bought kids clothing for in their store after the birth of the owners son. Lovely clothing like Mini Rodini with hot dogs instead of corny cupcake prints. If you’d like your kid to be awesome and yummy, visit my favorite store with whom we started The Foundation. They also have other stuff which interest you haha

Buonasera Vasso
I visited Italian restaurant Vasso with my sister the other day. We were in the center of Amsterdam walking from Dam Square to an unknown destination. My sis is sometimes more picky than me when it comes to food. Not necessary in how a place looks like, but in a way that you’d like to visit a cool spot where the atmosphere is like you are on a holiday or she rather eat home. I remembered...

Breakfast at Gartine
One of my favourite breakfast and lunch spots in the Centre of Amsterdam is called Gartine. Home made treats made from ingredients grown in the garden of the owners according the Slow food principles, served in a cute and antique decorated brasserie. Must visit! This place is located in the most crowded place of Amsterdam. In an alley between the shopping streets Kalverstraat and the Rokin....

Beauty Detox Solution by Kimberly Snyder
This was one of my reads during my trip to Tenerife. A title which you can call one of your new years resolutions for 2012. Kimberly, I think you are awesome and beautiful, yet you make me feel bad after Tenerife. What happened inTenerife, stays in Tenerife…. The Beauty Detox is a book which will give you many scientific insights about how humans are designed. What we used to eat,...

Ice Cold Dorada
I’m more of a vino tinto than a beer kinda girl, unless it’s light beer and when I’m amongst tropical vibes. Call me an occasional beer drinker.  Arriving in Tenerife, Spain the whole airport was screaming: Welcome to the island of Dorada! Like the beer was a monument. So, to help boosting the Spanish economy and ofcourse not to offend the Canarian, I ordered Dorada on hot...

Cava del Mencey - Santa Cruz
I wish I stayed at the new hotel across the street of Cava del Mencey. Why? The rest of Tenerife is quiet during the siesta and low season, the South is horror (only mass tourism where it’s impossible to eat Canarian food!) and staying at the capital is very practical if you’d like to see the best of Tenerife by car.   Okay, Cava del Mencey. I had to go to the ladies room...

Spanish Coffee Menu
….for Dummies haha Well, I need to explain the coffee menu to you. Cappuccino is served con leche (how most of us drink it, with foamy milk) or con crema (with cream), so you won’t get surprised if you get one with cream if you imagined a coffee with foamy milk. With cream is awesome btw. And I was about to swear off coffee, because I can ‘t deal with caffeine. You know...

Food con Mojo
I love hot sauce and I always bring a bottle as a souvenir for my hot sauce collection at home. The ingredients of local hot sauces tell me a lot about the culture of a certain era before the ‘globalization’ of ingredients. Find it kind of interesting. I mean we can get McIlhenny Tabasco everywhere, but it’s hard to find sambal for example. And yes, Spain has been influenced in...

Churreria Chocolateria El Guanche - Candelaria
Greedy as I was… lured by the smell of fresh fried Churros… as was the cute chubby boy who just came from Judo class and ordered tons of Churros, I bought a bag full of Churros as well! 5 pieces for 1€ with a cup of dark chocolate sauce.   Just ate one and a half Churro…I was so full and will leave fried pastries alone for a couple months, I guess. It was worth it though...

Picnic Spot - Bosque de Las Mercedes
One of the last three sub tropical cloud forests can be found at the Anaga Mountains north of Tenerife, called Bosque de Las Mercedes. It’s quite chilly there, so make sure you bring a jacket and a scarf. This place is ideal for walks and picnics if you love the bush and need some time with nature before going to the touristic and mass playas. The Mercedes woods are beautiful!

Canarian Sweets - Almendras Cookies!
Unfortunately I couldn’t find pasteleria’s which were open during the siesta. I totally forgot about the Spanish nap hour when I was at my most active haha But if you have the chance try and get some home made almond cookies! Or these babies from Dulceria Nublo - Tejeda, Gran Canaria. A delicious and very crumbly almond cookie.  Available at a store called Artesanos del...

Meet Lucas at Playa de Las Teresitas
This is my favorite beach! North of the capital of Tenerife, Santa Cruz at the end/beginning of the highway Sur is Playa de Las Teresitas. An awesome clean sand beach with a small harbour where locals run, take a quick swim after, the elderly practice their dance moves and the place where I met Lucas. Lucas doesn’t speak English and thinks that the tourist should speak Spanish to...

If you stay in the south of Tenerife make sure you take the road to El Teide vulcano via the village Vilaflor for an awesome road trip with some picnic spots along the good maintained roads and awesome woods, which are btw different than the woods up North! Forgot to have some breakfast? You can get some food at the Vilaflor Square across the church before you leave for the El Teide. I...

Shopping bags!
I thought I lost this awesome bag until I found it in my storage closet. In 2008 I received this hilarious bag from Sixten a Montreal based graphic designer who worked with Nalden at a creative agency. This bag made me smile and most of the people who saw me using this cotton bag instead of plastic grocery bags. Watch me going green haha Next to this bag I use some other grocery bags instead of...

Foodware is one of my favorite places for take out with healthy options when you are too tired to cook. The owner and chef Sander makes daily specials with seasonal and local products. Glühwein
Christmas markets and Glühwein were always nightmares to me. Terrible curation of market stalls and very bad Glühwein. I couldn’t believe that there wasn’t a proper recipe which does justice to this popular mid European drink which is like a hot sangria haha I’m not a fan of cinnamon, but think it’s very essential for Glühwein. I’ve googled my way and found a few...

The Godfather I: Clemenza Spaghetti Sauce
My love surprised me with some Christmas movies and proposed to stay home last Saturday to relax. He didn’t came back with Beethoven, Home Alone, The Holiday or another romantic comedy, but The Godfather Trilogy hahaha. BabyCakes book to the rescue
A gift tip or a life saver? Well, both I guess. My sister bought the Babycakes NYC book and we tried some vegan recipes out. Tasted terrible vegan cupcakes before and am happy to hear and taste that vegan can be good too.   The recipes are so easy to...

I always turn off my water as a habit, but think this lovely soap is a nice way to remind you doing it. Melly's Cookie bar
Yesterday, I had a-tourist-in-her-own-city- moment with my sister. I live in the centre of Amsterdam and most of the time I avoid eating in the centre. Why? Because it’s poor quality of food targeted to the mass tourist without taste. But still, there are some good spots you need to visit. Just like Melly’s Cookie bar across the awful Magna Plaza behind the Nieuwe kerk, Damsquare. ...

Carrot Overload
Dear all! What to do if you have tons of carrots and want to turn it into something easy to make? Peel some carrots and chop them in fine disks and steam them for a few minutes until it’s cooked. In another pan heat some olive oil or butter and sautee your chopped leek. Add your carrots, season with salt and pepper and add sugar or in my case a bit of agave syrup. Stir until everything...
