Rem “Coolhaus” Ice Cream

It’s Monday morning 11AM and I’m watching a mouthwatering video on an awesome website I Am Los Angeles, stories by real Angelenos initiated by Joris Debeij. The video was about Natasha Case’s story about her Coolhaus project! A Food Truck which drives in L.A. serving architecturally-themed ice cream sandwiches made from two cookies and huge scoop of Ice Cream! Check out her story and follow them on twitter @COOLHAUS if you’re in L.A., NYC or Austin!

Amsterdam Ice Cream
Current Favorites:
1. Frozz - Delicious 100% Natural frozen yoghurt! Love the Frozz in the Hartenstraat 36 in the ‘Negen Straatjes’, Amsterdam. Don’t have favorite toppings yet, but their fresh fruit and crunchy toppings rock. If you don’t fancy frozen yoghurt you can visit the espresso bar called SOK for good coffee next to Frozz. Unfortunately SOK is a pop-up espresso bar, so visit while you have the time.
2. IJScuypje - OMG their ice cream is gooood. My favorites are, choco waffer, boerenjongens (rum raisins), raspberry, Oma’s applepie, ok I don’t have a favorite they all taste good! Make your portion bad ass by ordering whipped cream on top of the scoops. They have four shops spread through Amsterdam so you’d find one easily.
3. Pisa - Italian ice cream. Don’t mind their super oldschool website, their ice cream is good. So good and so Italian, the people there barely speak Dutch or English haha
And I’m still looking for some great addresses…

Creative Ice Creams

One of my muses for this blog showed me this post about Stoyn Ice cream, *da (I’m not good in Russian), according to google translate: a concept from Stoyn, an advertising agency which is experimenting in translating brands into other forms of experiences. In this concept with food like ice cream.

To assure my muse that making your own ice cream is like: “een kind kan de was doen” - “a kid can do the laundry” a.k.a. is a Piece of cake and doesn’t need any type of concept haha, some tips.

You can buy awesome molds like these from Uncommon Goods or Zoku Quick Pop maker if you don’t have the patience. Don’t want any fuss at all? Just ask your mother, aunt or grandmother. They probably have some Tupperware molds.

Buy your favourite juices or make your own fruit juices and freeze. If you’d like to have multiple colors: Freeze the layers, layer by layer..and yess it takes some time. For eye candy throw in pieces of fruit.
