And that’s why I plan my London visits between Thursdays and Saturdays, so I can enjoy what Borough Market has to offer. Make sure you don’t eat before you go to the market, because you’ll be very disappointed when you can’t knock yourself out.
Restaurant Trouw was on my to go list since the opening of their re-designed restaurant a few months ago. The dear people from Trouw invited me to check it out, but my schedule didn’t allow me. My visit recently was cleverly combined with a screening at the same location of the touching documentary called Inside Out about Legendary photographer Anton Corbijn. I can tell you right now that I’ve ate some of the best dishes ever!
A friend Sabine decided to treat me for granola at a new place Cottoncake in her and her homeboys Patrick hood. De Pijp in Amsterdam. Situated at the 1e van der Helststraat, which was a dull street crossing the famous Albert Cuyp market about a year ago. Now it’s a lively street with cafe’s, the Croquette joint of Amsterdam van Dobben and Bakkery Brood. And Cottoncake is a nice initiative which contributed to this cosy street too.
Went all macrobiotic in Amsterdam at the Kushi Institute, Deshima. My sister introduced me to this place. She’s a health freak and likes to take me to try before you die places haha Not really my cup of tea, yet I think… a macrobiotic diet is all about going local, but most of the time it’s just Japanese food made of Japanese ingredients shipped from Japan… Not really good for the environment if you live on the other side of the globe right? Can somebody help me with a macrobiotic joint where one uses ultimately Dutch products?
De Laatste Kruimel
Once a week I take a walk from home to my office. Catch some air and enjoy my City. Sometimes I combine it with a visit to the beauty salon for a quick neck massage. On my way to my appointment I discovered one of the cutest bakeries ever, called De laatste Kruimel (the last crumb) in an alley near one of the many locations of the University of Amsterdam. A very clever location to launch a bakery.
Love the interior design made from pallets giving it a very characteristic vibe. Daily fresh baked goods, surprise pastries and organic juices. Fancy brownies, scones in a lot of flavours, home-made jams and puddings and good service? Visit this joint!
My beef stew partner in crime Jelle shared this one with me. A video about our food industry. With good distribution of food and a conscious way of cultivation we wouldn’t have starvation. A sympathetic way to spread a message!
Remember my post about them bags? Well, I have a new one in mind for my collection. The Goods Pretzel Tote designed by Ontour from the Netherlands. I’ve been checking them out for a few years now and am happy to hear that they dedicated their new collection to food with items called Knife (sweater), Le Chef (Jumpsuit) and Pastry (cape). Check out their ‘The Bakery’ edition.
I love this bakery and always try to find an occasion to spend my breakfast, lunch or tea time here: the Albion Cafe, Bakery and Food store. Take your time to have a full breakfast here or fetch a piece of pastry with organic soda for your shopping or art gallery spree!
