De Laatste Kruimel
Once a week I take a walk from home to my office. Catch some air and enjoy my City. Sometimes I combine it with a visit to the beauty salon for a quick neck massage. On my way to my appointment I discovered one of the cutest bakeries ever, called De laatste Kruimel (the last crumb) in an alley near one of the many locations of the University of Amsterdam. A very clever location to launch a bakery.
Love the interior design made from pallets giving it a very characteristic vibe. Daily fresh baked goods, surprise pastries and organic juices. Fancy brownies, scones in a lot of flavours, home-made jams and puddings and good service? Visit this joint!

L’autre Salon de The

Crime: vegetables and fruit salad w/ balsamic vinegar to balance my French cheese, wine and baguette diet.

Scene: L’autre salon de the, 11 rue des Remparts, Bordeaux

Investigation: After a day in Angouleme and a ride to Bordeaux we were exhausted and took some rest at the hotel. Surfing on the net’s didn’t got us where we were looking for. So off we go (or went) for the ultimate quest…

After a 10minutes walk in the centre ville, we ran into L’autre salon de the and were attracted by the pastries, baroque interior and the french crowd eating tons of dessert with tea served in cute cups at 9:30PM on a Saturday. Wish there was such an ‘accessible’ place in Amsterdam….

The place had a high tea vibe, with ‘antique’ paintings of random people on the walls and the hostess was awesome. A Madame with a lot of humor which made you feel at home.

I ordered a vegetable and fruit salad from the market. As seen on the picture it was quite basic. Nothing fancy. After peeking at the neighbors, I could see that the tartes (quiches), viand et poisson dishes looked very good, but I needed some vitamin C.

I was very full after eating this full plate of nature with to much different kinds of ingredients (i’ve counted 10! you know, less is more) and had no space for the pies :(

I recommend all when visiting L’Autre Salon de the: go for the pies and tea and don’t be distracted other things on the menu.

Praise of Sweeetnesss

Crime: Sandwich with chicken roulade made with a special recipe served with creme fresh/dille spread, mushrooms and side salad, mixed teas and a delicious chocolate cake with raspberries, to share of course ;) And the sandwich with lambs ham and the quiches are a hit too.

Scene: Lof der Zoetheid, Noordplein 1, Rotterdam

Investigation: I was starved after leaving Antwerp, because I was not into the fabulous restaurant ‘the golden arches’. Before entering my delirious phase my brother in law proposed to visit this lunchroom near his apartment. One of his favorite places to have lunch or a tea with his girlfriend. He told me that this place was so ME and he was right.

A lunchroom with an experience. And that is what I’m looking for if I’m taking the effort to eat outside my own kitchen since I can make most of the things I like. Ok, at least I try to haha

Served by a friendly lady with a lovely dress and apron, dark hair and red lipstick on her lips. Like she was part of the whole interior with an Alice in Wonderland vibe which was hanging there. Loved it! Old school kitchenware everywhere and lovely pastries made with love and care which almost let your eyes pop out of your head. Reminded me of a chocolaterie called Esquinja in de Pijp area which is gone for unknown reasons btw (r.i.p)

I’m not going to spoil a lot aka visit the place yourself! And that’s what this post is meant to. Check it out and make your own experience ;) And don’t forget to buy a box of sweets to go.
